Introducing My Next Cookbook Project: New School Barbecue!

Plus, you know it, just gobs of book deals.

Howdy cookbook friends!

Remember me?

Apologies for the interrupted service! I’ve been just insanely busy all summer, mostly in the kitchen, with a side of travel. Speaking of, hi from the new Delta lounge at MSP. This place is huge! Here are their cookbooks (Delta plz sponsor me):

Fortunately, I am able to tell you what I’ve been up to while I’ve been not writing this newsletter: firstly, I was in Napa a few weeks ago for the first ever Cookbook Fest and got to meet SO MANY OF YOU! Truly, a pleasure. Thanks for coming, y’all!

Secondly, my next project has been announced! Drum roll, please.

I am absolutely thrilled to be working with Evan LeRoy and the team at Austin’s own LeRoy and Lewis on the upcoming cookbook, New School Barbecue!

(I love posting screenshots from Publishers Marketplace, but I love it even more when they’re about a book project I’m working on!)

LeRoy and Lewis, currently #5 on the Texas Monthly top 50 list, takes Texas barbecue to the next level, applying innovative techniques and new flavors to this ultra traditional cuisine. The restaurant employs philosophies like whole animal butchery and seasonal cooking, as well as techniques like the foil boat method of smoking. It’s the book to buy someone who has mastered pulled pork and is maybe a little bit bored. Recipes will include everything from vegetable barbecue (cauliflower burnt ends!!!) to traditional smokes like brisket to super exciting fun things I can’t tell you about yet because this baby doesn’t come out til 2026. Abrams! No pre-order link just yet. Updates to come. You can read more about it at Eater Austin and Texas Monthly. (Thanks Nadia and Daniel!)

Today we’re playing catch up because I JUST MISSED YOU GUYS and didn’t want to wait til I had more time to say hi. So, tons of book deals! LET’S GO!

COMING ATTRACTIONS: Ina Garten! Alison Roman! Molly Baz! Brooke Williamson! Olivia Tiedemann! Vitamina T! Anthony Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer!

  • TEASER TIME: Ina Garten teased a new book on Instagram with this photo of a piña colada. What do we think the theme will be? Fruit? Cocktails? Some kind of entertaining theme? My money is on summer cooking.

  • Likewise, Alison Roman teased a new book in her newsletter, writing “I’m really excited about this next one, but you’ll have to wait until 2025 to hear any more about it from me.” Okay!

  • Not teasing: the third book from Molly Baz is on the way! Less Is More is a collection or recipes “that are all about simplicity and use a minimal number of ingredients, steps, and techniques.” Minimalism seems like a departure for Baz, but she did just have a baby, so, simplify! Makes sense to me. She hasn’t posted anything about it that I can find, so that’s all for now. Pub date TBA.

  • Private chef Olivia Tiedemann (4.3 million followers on Instagram) to write an as-yet untitled book “showing how high-end food can be achievable, offering a wide range of ‘luxury’ recipes.” I watched a few of her videos, she seems to enjoy 1. bone broth 2. making fancy food (tracks) and 3. giving the camera the finger. If this book deal had been announced when I was her age I would have been unspeakably jealous. Maybe still am. Cowritten with Rachel Holtzman. Ten Speed, pub date TBA.

  • Comedians Anthony Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer to write AC Barbeque, a book about the duo’s love for barbecue and also their spice/sauce line. Simon Element, pub date TBA.

  • Helllllloooooo to my fellow Austinite and chef of Suerte/Este chef Fermín Núñez and Masienda founder Jorge Gaviria to write Vitamina T (which is a nod to a section of the Suerte menu featuring all their masa dishes, YES this is a brag about living in Austin). The book will “[dive] deep into the unofficial Mexican food group of street food staples so home cooks can recreate the most cravable tacos, tortas, tamales, and more.” (See, “T.”) Clarkson Potter, pub date TBA.

  • Brooke Williamson of Top Chef fame to write Sun-Kissed Cooking. Vegetables! Harper, 2024.

  • Florence Fabricant of the New York Times to write Salty, Not Sweet: Dining Remembered. Which seems to be a dining memoir, unclear if it will contain recipes or not. Running Press, pub date TBA.

  • Noah Galuten to write an as-yet untitled cookbook about cooking for a busy family. Knopf, pub date TBA.

  • Chef Emme Collins to write an as-yet untitled book on the regional cuisines of Brazil, a topic we don’t see covered often, despite the rich and diverse cuisine there! (Perhaps because some of the produce is not accessible stateside? IDK.) On her Instagram, Collins says the book will “showcase the true essence of Brazilian food.” Artisan, pub date TBA.

  • Amethyst Ganaway to write From the Roota to the Toota, “a collection of 80 recipes pitched for fans of sustainable foodways, butchery, hunting, and land stewardship.” Love this topic. 4 Color Books, pub date TBA.

  • Anna Hezel, author of last years’ Tin to Table, to write Party Tricks, “drawing inspiration from bar snacks, retro classics, and nostalgic childhood foods, and leaning into the luxury of iconic flavor combos in 50 recipes that often require only a handful of ingredients.” Chronicle! 2026.

  • Robin Ha to write (and draw) Souped Up Ramen and Beyond, a comic cookbook that’s “a love letter to instant noodles and their versatility as a base for satisfying, flavorful, and balanced meals.” Harvest, pub date TBA.

  • Tammy Donroe Inman to write New England Brunch, which will feature regional brunch recipes. I assume there will be blueberries! Globe Pequot, pub date TBA.

All deals are via Publishers Marketplace unless otherwise specified.

That’s it, nerds. Hope to see you again soon. Cross your fingers these recipes cooperate because they’re not gonna test themselves. Xo!
